In reply to the discussion: New York City police investigating after officers were hit with snowballs during a snowball fight [View all]PeaceWave
(3,012 posts)32. Someone called the police. The police had to respond. They couldn't just ignore the call...
At that point, some morons decided to go out of their way to disrespect the NYPD. They're hurling not just snow but insults at the cops simply because they felt a safety in numbers. Some guy comes out of nowhere and starts filming the police officers' every step. Why is any of this necessary? NYPD isn't ICE. As a party, we can make light of the situation. But, in doing so, it makes us look like we don't respect either local police or the job they do.

They had a huge opportunity to do the "community outreach" that cops say they want to do, but god forbid you forget

they arrive, under orders to quell disturbance - and are immediately bombarded

They were not "under orders to quell a disturbance." Someone called 911 "disorderly conduct in the park." They show up

If city employees don't want to be pelted with snow and ice while at work, they should just find a new job, right?

Wet, heavy snow packed into a ball becomes ice, which can be very injurious to whomever is the target of it.

Of course, really. Throwing anything at a police officer is not a smart thing to do.

Having watched the video, I feel like it's possible that all involved were acting like assholes.
