(7,314 posts)I recall the memorials The NY Times did for the individuals killed on the 9/11 attack on the people of our country. The individual memorials reminded us that each person was a human being, and could not be erased by the killers.
Those killings were planned and executed mainly by Saudi citizens.
These killings, whether caused by dereliction of duty or outright murder, are being done by Americans who do not believe in the rule of law, and who want absolute power over all of us. We will do everything we can to remember these individuals killer, even though we have not yet been able to stop the killings or even count them all.
It is not just Donald Trump and Kristi Noem who are responsible. It is the entire cabinet, the shadow government of enablers, cheerleaders and instrumentalists, the conservative think tankers, and the entire Republican Party.
It includes every member of this Republican power structure, formal or informal, who have not spoken out forcefully against the killings and outrages. It includes those who who hang on to their positions and offices, too scared to act and too cowardly to get out of the way.. They too will need to be counted.
Compiling the lists of the people killed and of the people complicit has nothing to do with accountability or justice. That is a separate issue.
The counting is about honesty and truth, and acknowledging our shared humanity.
