What does it mean to live in a country where safety is conditional, where belonging can be reconsidered and where the promise of freedom of movement is not evenly distributed? America likes to imagine itself as a place where anyone can belong. The tournament showed how far we are from that ideal and how urgently we need to confront the systems that keep so many people from feeling safe in the place they call home.
