2. That's actually very common among athletes who are non-native English speakers.

They use interpreters when speaking to the media to avoid being misconstrued, even though their English is perfectly fine for communicating with teammates. Ichiro is a great example. He speaks fluent English but used an interpreter for interviews his entire career.
