My dad got me started watching old movies on local television on Saturday afternoons when I was a kid. And I've forced my nieces and nephews to watch old movies, too, on TCM and on my modest collection of DVDs. I firmly believe that viewing films from other generations can broaden one's horizons, just like reading classic books or travelling abroad. And those nieces and nephews have grown up to be good liberals!
