1. The show ran during a period when I watched practically nil TV

The show did cross my field of vision occasionally, however, and Lydia Cornell’s character caught my eye for purely shallow, superficial reasons. I recall that the rationale for her living with parents was avoiding the big, bad city across the bay. Even then, my racist radar was picking up echoes, and I found that plot element at best chauvinistic - at worst a dog whistle. I’m guessing I would have taken exception to misogynistic plot elements as well, had I paid closer attention.
