2. When this song was adopted as the state anthem,

I was assisting a University of Arkansas graduate student from Illinois with her research project. We were talking about this becoming the new state song, and she asked what the old song was, so I sang a few lines for her.

"Where the roses are in bloom and the sweet magnolia too
Where the jasmine is white and the fields are violet blue..."

"Where the JAZZMAN is WHITE!?!" she exclaimed. "Aren't there any *black* jazzmen in Arkansas?"
