There are areas you don’t go to. Take public transportation and avoid leaving your rental car in the fisherman’s wharf area. A lovely walk though fisherman’s wharf, pier 39 down the Embarcadero to the Ferry building which has some great food offerings. Then you can take the underground muni to Powell and walk two blocks to union square. Avoid the tenderloin area and parts of the Mission districts are sketchy. I live near a lovely area called West Portal where you can take the underground muni to and walk around.The same street car can take you to Stonestown shopping mall.

San Francisco has gone though up and down cycles. During the hippie era it was kind o sketchy and I remember as a kid south of market had all these alcoholics and drug addict before they cleaned it up. We have a weak mayor now that needs to be replaced. But SF will come back. The pandemic brought a lot of homeless unsavory people to SF who weren’t here before.

September is our best weather month btw.
