DeSantis signs new insurance bill for Florida. Not good for customers... [View all]

Gainesville Sun opinion piece outlines a new bill that heavily rewards insurance companies. One of its worst features is that it reduces the ability of customers to sue an insurer. It nullifies the state statute that permitted suing a company for "bad faith" -- like taking years to pay a valid claim. Now, customers will have to prove "breach of contract," a higher bar. And if an insured's case is dismissed, the insured will pay the insurer's legal fees. Also, expect a higher roof damage deductible.
