Because it is beyond the normal number of children a sitter has to take care of.

And a USAF major is a field level officer making good pay, housing and food allowances, etc.

When living overseas especially, the Officer's Club is the favorite place to be.

There is a pool, pop, snacks, lunch for the kids.

The adults have cheap booze, entertainment, fun.

Sometimes we are stationed in locations with nothing to do at all.
And no TV, just one military radio station.

So the O Club is some bit of a normal life.
