However, you can't "melt them down" or "hook them up to the grid," whatever that means. Do you mean the electrical grid? Nuclear weapons use very different technology than nuclear reactors.

ETA: So far, the only thing our scientists can do with spent fuel rods and any other nuclear material is busy in salt caverns in the American West.
