The laser guns are what use the front license plates. License plates are highly reflective, and give a speed reading over twice as far away as a painted bumper. In states that have no front plate requirement, the armed tax collectors, sorry I meant "cops and highway patrol", are trained to aim at your headlights because they are the most reflective.

From what I've read, a black or dark colored car with retracting headlights is most difficult to get a speed reading. Cars like an old Pontiac Fiero, or Firebird.
