3. Yes, the athletes should be paid.

Other extracurricular programs simply don't cost as much money. They just don't drain resources in the same way. They also don't demand as much from the students, and likewise don't hold out the promise of a high-paying career at the end. Well, there are the drama majors who go on to a successful career in Hollywood, but that's not held out as the promise the way a career in the NBA or NFL is dangled in front of the student athletes.

Baseball has a farm club system. So does hockey and maybe soccer. Basketball and Football use colleges as their farm clubs and aren't honest about it.
