Former White House chef Walter Scheib missing near Taos [View all]

TAOS — Search teams on Thursday are expected to resume combing the Lobo Peak area north of Taos for a 61-year-old hiker missing since Saturday, The Taos News reported.

Walter Scheib, who served as White House chef from 1994 to 2005 under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, was first reported missing to local law enforcement on Sunday, New Mexico State Police Lt. Edwardo Martinez said.

A Taos Ski Valley Department of Public Safety officer found the man’s vehicle Tuesday evening at the head of Yerba Canyon trail off N.M. 150, west of the village.

Search-and-rescue teams from Taos Ski Valley and Taos made their way up the trail Wednesday morning. A New Mexico State Police helicopter also was used to search what can be a difficult landscape to traverse on foot.
