3. N.C. early voting tops 2 million

RALEIGH — State election officials said more than 2 million voters had cast ballots early, according to incomplete results late Saturday afternoon.

The tally represents a 73 percent increase over 2014 early voting totals, when 1,174,184 voters cast their ballot early, Patrick Gannon, public information officer for the State Board of Elections & Ethics Enforcement, said in a news release.

That’s a turnout rate of 28.6 percent so far. By comparison, final turnout in 2014 (including Election Day), was 44.4 percent, Gannon said.

Final early voting numbers are expected to be released later Saturday as some counties have not reported final numbers yet ...
