Eric Mansfield drops out of U.S. Senate race [View all]

Democrat Eric Mansfield of Wake County, who runs a medical practice in Fayetteville, has dropped out of the 2020 race for United States Senate.

He said in a news release Friday that he was unable to balance the responsibilities of his personal and professional life with the commitment it takes to run for the Senate seat.

“In conversations with my family, patients, supporters, and voters, I have always maintained that I would not proceed with a campaign if I felt I could not give the full attention and commitment necessary to be successful,” Mansfield said. “As I worked to wind down my medical practice, attend to my family, and raise the resources necessary to compete in a modern campaign, it became clear that it would be difficult if not impossible to balance and meet all those obligations simultaneously.”

Mansfield used to live in Fayetteville and opened his ear-nose-and-throat medical practice here after he left the Army. He previously was a physician at Fort Bragg.
