7. There are two minor objections I have to DeFazio

Let me preference this by saying I think he is a great legislator and I'm sure a great guy (I've met Wyden and Merkley, but never DeFazio). First, he's 67 and if he won he'd been five months short of 70 by the time he is sworn in. I'm sure he's in great health, but how long would he want to continue in politics. I think he'd have to make a pledge to stay at least two terms to build up some seniority (it has taken Merkley quite a long time to get into the top 50). Second, we'd lose him as a congressman and the loss would be worse if he wasn't successful at beating Wyden.

I'd rather have someone younger who is not currently in Congress go up against Wyden. That said, if DeFazio is the nominee I'd support him 100%.
