Samsung eyes more expansion in Taylor [View all]

Last year, the county was rocked by the announcement of Samsung building a $17 billion semiconductor plant in Taylor.

Now the Korean tech company is considering bringing an additional nine plants to the Taylor area, yet again generating excitement with a potentially record-setting $184 billion investment.

{Williamson} County Judge Bill Gravell said, as someone who grew up in Round Rock, the thought of an investment that large into the county is staggering.

“We’re now reaching an altitude of figures almost unimaginable,” he said, stating that he had heard an estimate of the Samsung build out in the Taylor-Hutto area totaling potentially half a trillion dollars when all is finished.

“I think it will be the largest [group of] semiconductor manufacturing plants in the world, right here where we grew up,” he said during an interview with the Sun last Friday. “To think of [this] region getting up to half a trillion dollars … You just go, ‘wow.’ ” half a trillion dollars … You just go, ‘wow.’ ”
