Its 10 minutes to Montpelier and less than an hour to Burlington. And it has houses that we can afford, and that are not likely to fall down around us.

Which is more than I can say for my first choice, Burlington. In Burlington, even the houses that need extensive renovation are out of my price range. But, its a pretty reasonable drive from Barre. Not for work, but for occasional fun.
