Miner killed in Friday night accident

LOGAN, W.Va. A coal miner died on the job Friday evening in Southern West Virginia.
Governor Jim Justice announced the mans death of injuries suffered on the job at the Mountaineer II Mine near Sharples in Logan County. The victim was identified as Gary Chapman, 33, of South Williamson, Kentucky.
The Governor put out a statement of condolence to Chapmans family..
When we lose a miner, its not just a loss for the community, but a loss for the entire State of West Virginia, Gov. Justice said. Mr. Chapmans loss is a powerful reminder that we should always have a deep gratitude for every one of our coal miners. They are the ones who keep our nation running, and I can promise that we will never forget Mr. Chapmans dedication and service. Cathy and I are holding him and his family close in our hearts, and we ask that you keep them in yours as well during this time.
The state Office of Miners Health, Safety, and Training is investigating the accident along with MSHA. No information on how Chapman died was revealed.
Its the fourth mining fatality of the year in West Virginia.
