Police reinforcements for Northern Ireland in case of no-deal Brexit [View all]

Almost 1,000 police officers from England and Scotland are to begin training for deployment in Northern Ireland in case of disorder from a no-deal Brexit, the Guardian has learned.

The plans were put in place after Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) chiefs asked for reinforcements to deal with any trouble that arises from a hard border. The training for officers from English forces and Police Scotland is expected to begin this month.

Fucking hell. Are these eejits serious? How will the nationalists look at this as anything but an act of aggression by the mainland? As an NI native who has been away for a long time, this is making me very upset. I am a child of the 70's from East Belfast. I grew up in the worst of the troubles. My earliest memory is watching out the back of a No.7 bus as Woolworth's got blown up in the Town Centre. They can't put the army in so they are going to put the police in instead? WOW.

I would also like to point out that the PSNI all have guns (unlike everywhere else in the UK) for a reason. If things go tits up they are sending English police into a fire fight with a celery stick..... FUCKING HELL.
