Honest, non-privatized, non-corporatized, non-'TRADE SECRET' vote counting--vote counting restored to the PUBLIC venue--is the most bottom-line condition necessary to reform. Indeed, it is the bottom-line condition for democracy itself. Until it is restored, we really don't have a democracy.

I understand and applaud the other planks of Moore's proposal--and support them with all my heart. But getting rid of the 'TRADE SECRET' voting systems is, to me, the first and essential step toward those other goals. And what I see, right now, is that it has to happen at the state/local level with a widespread citizen movement. It ain't gonna happen in Washington, believe me.
