Avast or another reputable 3rd party av. But windows 10 changed that. I was a late adopter staying on win 7 as long as I could. With win 10 I think the built in protection (if it is working properly) is sufficient and desirable from the standpoint of a better running system. I keep a close eye on it to make sure the updates are working. I also run the Microsoft defender offline scan periodically.
When I stopped using Avast they renewed the license months later and charged me. I had to go back and request a refund which they approved.
