3. Everything I've read says the fonts are compatible, & there's nothing on the web about conflicts...

I'm beginning to suspect that perhaps there's a problem with the computer itself.

Originally, I thought it might be Font Doctor, but if it was just the Extensis projects then the fonts should load in Font Book, the Mountain Lion application. I can't get more than 4 of the 15 Goudy faces to load there.

And why is it accepting some of the faces and not the others. The entire family was purchased at the same time (about the same time as you got yours), and I de-archived them all from the CDs I burned years ago, to ensure I have uncorrupted files. (The originals came on floppy discs.) Like you, I worry about the shelf life of these old fonts, but with so many of us having so much money invested in Type 1 technologies I can't imagine the manufacturers would make them obsolete without providing some means to upgrade them.

I've sent emails to Extensis so I hope to have some answers Tuesday morning when they return from the weekend. Fortunately, my old machine still works, so I'm able to hobble along for now. I'll update this with what I learn this week.

Thanks for your help, Auggie. The link to the Dummies Book will prove useful in my discussions with Extensis and Apple this week.
