And yes, so many thanks to all the BT’s for the wonderful coverage of POTUS’ travels. I often get the feeling that in addition to his normal presidential duties, he’s doing all this travelling and speaking around the world in order to allay the fears of all the other world leaders and citizens out there, that everything is going to be all right, despite the endless inane Drumpf headlines.

TY, Judith! Pure luck. I just think that the POTUS gives a master class in professionalism and grace under pressure, and how a president is supposed to behave when presenting himself to the rest of the world, every time he speaks!

Adapting to Change Requires Curiosity and Creativity

Traditionally progressives have faced challenges like this by working on ways to move forward rather than pinning for days past. To do so requires things like curiosity and creativity. The past can be examined objectively, but the future is still uncertain. Ideologues too often stand in the way of curiosity and creativity. Here is how then-Senator Barack Obama talked about that back in 2005:

...the degree that we brook no dissent within the Democratic Party, and demand fealty to the one, "true" progressive vision for the country, we risk the very thoughtfulness and openness to new ideas that are required to move this country forward. When we lash out at those who share our fundamental values because they have not met the criteria of every single item on our progressive "checklist," then we are essentially preventing them from thinking in new ways about problems.

I believe that this is why the President so often says that it is young people who inspire his optimism. They tend to be free of the ideologies and baggage of the past. Instead, they bring fresh eyes to the challenges we face going forward. Progressives need not fear the changes we are experiencing today when we tap into all of that.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for"

I am not a student of Obama's remarkable rhetoric, so perhaps Obama followers will be more familiar with something he said Tuesday night than I am. But it caught my attention, even shook me when he said it. It was in this graph of his remarks Tuesday from Chicago:

"You see, the challenges we face will not be solved with one meeting in one night. It will not be resolved on even a Super Duper Tuesday. Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek. We are the hope of those boys who have so little, who've been told that they cannot have what they dream, that they cannot be what they imagine. Yes, they can."

I get chills even now as I write this. It was one of the most powerful things I've ever heard anyone say.

"We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek."

The man so vilified from the right and sadly from some on the left. With a calm dignity and grace he has led us forward. He brought us back from the brink of Recession. He has healed so many wounds around the word from the Bush years and past leaders. Just look at the pictures from Vietnam there are more from Hiroshima as well. He reaches out to heal and comfort.
