I'll be eligible for Medicare in a few months, and am looking for advice [View all]

All thoughts welcome.

I'm 64 and change, male, reasonably fit for my age. I'm looking forward to being Medicare-eligible as I'm now paying big bucks for a "major calamity only" policy - deductible is $12,500 annually and it still costs me a fortune. But I figure it protects me should I get mangled in a car accident.

I understand that "Medicare-supplement" insurance is available. I've heard it's a "must have" and I've heard that I should "watch out for scams".

So let's start at that point. Like I said, all thoughts welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Scuba
