if the ancient Greeks had cameras, it would have saved them a lot of time putting out fantasy images instead of paintings and statues.

We like eye candy. Always have, and it's no big deal.

My take is simply to move the fantasy over into fiction, where it always played a huge part anyway. And, fiction has the major advantage of the object of your desire being custom made with no need for plastic surgeons or publicists.
