4. Yes a lot of things were consolidated into the new standard deduciton

They got rid of the exemption and now just have a larger standard deduction. Eliminating the standard exemption was a tax hike on everyone with that change hitting the bottom the hardest.
Also from the IRS: Generally, you can deduct on Schedule A (Form 1040) only the amount of your medical and dental expenses that is more than 7.5% of your AGI.
