Can anyone name this fiction book: a better world where children and adults learn at their own [View all]

pace, and study what they want. And the love of learning returns. Instead of being yanked out as our education system does. (deliberately).
In the book, a woman (Puerto Rican I think) is diagnosed with a "mental illness" and she alternates between the real world and this ideal world.
I want to talk about this book in a discussion I'm having about education and I am totally blank on the title or author.
