3. How does affect those in the Midwest, away from these currents?

I understand the upper Eastern seaboard and Northern Europe freezing up, since they rely on oceanic heat transfer, but does the same impact occur far removed, like around the Great Lakes?

Or does it get weird and push warm air into those regions instead?
