Giving governments perverse incentives to prolong our use of fossil fuels doesn't seem like a good idea.

Taxing fossil fuels to the extent they have caused destructive climate changes seems like a good idea, but I don't think anyone is willing to pay that price...

If we choose to quit fossil fuels we simply have to quit fossil fuels. We can do that by banning them for particular uses at first, eventually banning them for ALL uses.
