Stagnant wages and corporate employment churn means most families are frugal by necessity not choice. This family has battled "unemployment" episodes since the 80s. These tips are typical of authors who have no clue about how and what families sacrifice to just keep food on the table or the lights on. Most will never ever return to a time when frugal living wasn't just experiments in saving for a rainy day -- all their days are rainy -- all conveniences that break are emergencies -- all gift-giving, donating, and traveling have long since been replaced by surviving.
