US oil production in 2010 was 5.6 million barrels a day, that rose to over 9 million barrels a day in 2015 and 8.8 million barrels a day in 2016, data here. Nearly half of the oil produced in 2016 (4.25 million barrels a day) was "tight" oil (oil shale, tar sands, etc), see here.
