Frederick Valentich disappearance [View all]

Being very close to home, this story crops up every so often. For those not familar with it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentich_disappearance

I have no firm opinion regarding what happened but note:
-Even though there were no weather warnings, Bass Strait weather is notoriously unpredictable
-There are at least two airfields (Laverton, Avalon) within about 200km of last known position where military and large commercial aircraft are tested.

Anyone researched this story?
