For some reason, that period of time has always fascinated (and horrified) me. I see so much of the same mentality now as then. In one particular case, there was a "crazy" man who lived in a village (Poland?) with a large Jewish population. This man left the village and came back warning of the death camps. They ridiculed him because they thought he was already crazy, so...But they rationalized everything, saying stuff like: "How could they take us and kill us en masse? That's nuts!" It's hard to imagine a similar scenario unfolding but we are seeing the red flags left and right, such as that Senate bill...
