My utility company wanted to have 100% of our meters read electronically. A company owned vehicle would drive down the streets of our service areas, and send out a signal. Radio receivers were attached to meters, and would be in a low-energy "listening" mode all of the time, and would only transmit once they received a signal from the company vehicle in the street. But, we had some stubborn types who went into it at length that our radios caused cancer, autism, you name it.

I got really frustrated with one once, and told him that his neighbor's cell phone emitted more radio waves than anything we were shooting at his place.
