3. Do you mean if you take it repeatedly, one time after another you get that much variation?

Or do you mean it varies throughout the day (as it does for everyone).

As an example, I've checked mine at 2:30 AM (96.7) and 3:45 AM (97.2) over two mornings... THis is normal as everyone's body temperature drops overnight. Early afternoon it typically runs about 97.7 (normal for me and for many Americans is lower than 98.6 as the average temp has been dropping slightly for several decades.

If you are not taking it orally (or rectally) but using ears or armpit, THAT is your problem. Those thermometers and that area of measurement are notoriously unreliable.
