Oh, the interesting finds when cleaning out kitchen cupboards. This weekend we found an interesting supply of tuna in tins. Not like a can, but more like how anchovies and sardines are packed in that rectangular tin that you pull up from the top. I didn't buy them; the RG did. They are yellowfin filets--really nice. One is in chili and the other is in some other preparation they call Mexicana. I chose the former and made a base of fresh, crispy spinach and red leaf, which I tossed in olive oil, cider vinegar, and lemon juice. I am putting the tuna filets with that, so it's a tuna salad but not what we usually see in a tuna salad. I also made an extra dressing with fresh parsley and cilantro.
I have crusty artisan rolls to go with it if I decide it's a little too light of a dinner.
Orange for dessert. Dark Chinese tea.
The rest of the evening will be spent finishing up valentines. I am making chocolates and chocolate-dipped cookies with crystallized ginger on them. Peanut brownies, too. I'm giving all these away: not a one will be left in the house. And of course I wouldn't think of tasting them.
