11. It's not a "hateful interpretation"

And it didn't originate with the white supremacist movement. It started with the book they follow. Death to homosexuals is what the Torah says, quite clearly: "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Leviticus 20:13.

My Hebrew is definitely rusty, but it's still good enough to know that the King James translation gets this verse right (granted in antiquated 16th/17th century English). No wriggling free by claiming it's taken out of context.

It's not.

And before anyone tries the "but that doesn't apply anymore because the new guy changed it all!" Get ready for a red letter verse that puts the lie to that claim:

"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Matthew 5:18. Meaning laws like Levticus 20:13 are in effect until I guess that Judgment Day thing that's supposed to come any day now, or so we've been told for the past 2000 years. What law did you think he meant? Roman law?

Face it: The fundigelicals aren't wrong about what their book says, or what their deity expects. Not with this. Maybe some other parts, people can tap dance about what it's trying to say, but not in this case.

So it's not a hateful interpretation. It's the only interpretation possible, because that verse is 100% crystal clear about what it's saying and what it demands.

This is why I'm a lapsed Jew. I couldn't reconcile the hateful, inhumane parts of the halacha with the good I believed in. I'll take my chances with a long stay in Gehinnom, but I will not follow anything or anyone telling me to kill consenting adults for who they love, and how.
