1. the idea that you can prepare someone for war

by treating them like shit during basic training has always been a real dumb argument.

You can't fully prepare someone for war, but what you can do is prepare them so that their duties and actions are reflex actions, second nature that they do without thinking because they've been trained so much and so well that even the chaos of war doesn't affect them in doing so.

You don't prepare them for war by making them eat a pine cone.
