Of a few of what you're getting the Reds (NH and RI) are great layers and Silkies are wonderful brooders... and look so cool too. You probably know this though.

We have a small hobby farm (currently 3 mini horses and a 'Fainter' goat) and had a variety of around 2 dozen chickens (mostly Orpington) plus a few ducks until last year when we were nearly wiped out by a series of predator attacks. We gave a good friend the survivors and hopefully (hubby's health allowing) will be rebuilding much sturdier coops this year.
