(17,301 posts)41. My first horse was a mare and she was the most gentle creature in all the world.
We use to go down to swim in the river on hot days (bareback of course). She would stomp the water to splash it up on her when we first rode in. Then in a little deeper, I would slide off her rump into the water, like a sliding board. She would never kick. We would swim in the 30 foot deep section. It felt like heaven on a hot day. About 2 pm the train would go by. The conductor would sound the whistle and wave to us. Then we crawled out shaking off sprays of water. Ah, those were the days, when the river wasn't polluted and I had long summer vacations to romp with my mare.
