I know a number of POC in blue Charlotte who have been verbally assaulted by Trump supporters too. It turns my stomach. I will ALWAYS fight them. Until I die. It is so disheartening to lose like this, when it felt like we had made so much progress. But as John Lewis pointed out, fighting for justice is a lifetime commitment. I guess he would know.
Some truths remain. We are a diverse nation and will continue to become more diverse. The majority of white people will continue to vote for racist Republicans, but there are going to be fewer white people, overall, and a sizable minority of us will not enable the racists. Alt-right can have their little Nazi fantasies, but the math for that kind of thing does not work in this country. And Trump cannot deliver on most of his promises. So that will be disheartening for them too.
It is ok to have less faith in the human race, but don't lose faith in yourself or the rightness of the cause. They WANT us to give up, to stop caring about each other. That is the plan. But if we love each other and keep trying, we cannot lose in the end.
