23. Bedside book: "Garnethill" by Denise Mina

Mar 2013

A young woman in Glasgow, Scotland wakes up after drinking very heavily the night before and finds her married boyfriend dead in her apartment. Did she kill him in an alcoholic haze, or was someone else in her apartment? And why was the boyfriend killed? Plus, what happens to your life when the tabloids get hold of the story and the police find out about your dysfunctional family and that you've spent time in a mental hospital?

Purse book: "Before the Poison" by Peter Robinson

A recently widowed man returns to England after a successful career in America and buys a secluded house in Yorkshire. Somehow, this story is connected with that of a woman who was hanged in the 1950s for poisoning her husband, but I haven't gotten far enough to tell more.
