... "The Island at the Center of the World" a couple of years ago, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

It is based on letters, journals, and reports written by Dutch settlers, and I learned so much about my home town that I never knew before - despite being an avid NY history buff for years.

It is truly an amazing glimpse into the beginnings of NYC, as well as upper NY state, Long Island, and Connecticut. It was particularly fascinating to hear descriptions of the area of Brooklyn where I come from, and being able to picture what it was like when first settled.

I absolutely guarantee you'll love every page - in fact, I plan on reading it again soon!
