Maybe it would be a good idea to slap a giant sticker on the rear bumper of a self driving car announcing that it is being guided by a pair of cheap cameras rather than something a tad more sophisticated.

Heck, if a pair of cheap cameras will work on self-driving cars, let's think about that for the repairs of the Boeing 737 Max 8. No need for fancy flight controls. Just slap a few cheap cameras on that sucker and let 'er rip.
