Ashley Hartsook’s first year as a bowhunter was pretty darn good, starting with
taking down a 6-by-6 bull elk with one shot last season.
“We put the sneak on him and found him bedded down with four cows in a steep
ravine,” Hartsook recalled this week. “The wind was pretty good at the time, so
we sat there for half an hour waiting for him to stand up so I could get a good
shot at him. Finally, the wind changed and he stood up; I flung an arrow and got him.
“It was pretty exciting and intense; it was my first time getting my elk. I will never forget it.”
For an encore, she got a 5-by-5 mulie buck while out with her boyfriend Lucas Zemlicka.
