As for your analogy, the status quo is a bad ladder designed to break.

I’m a consumer of professional soccer entertainment not horror shows. They slow the game considerably and jeopardize the well-being of the best athletes.

Whether or not they consented to having their faces smashed in by lesser players is irrelevant to me.
