The man could just divorce his wife by declaring himself divorced, the wife got nothing and she usually lost her children. That is why the Bible comes out strongly against divorce - because of how it was so unfair to women then. (this is according to my ELCA pastor). Since the Fundies want nothing more than to take women back to the “good old days”, they’re not going to interpret it this way.
