Jack's blog seems a bit over the top to me, but then some of my friends and I have wondered over the years whether our critters chose to be with us and sometimes choose to take on our issues and suffering for us. Certainly I wondered about that after Algiers got so sick last December and January, when I was reaching the absolute end of my energy and rope while being forced to work 12-hour night shifts. I was ready to leave, and thinking I could rent a van and drive all the critters to Best Friends before checking out. But I worried about his ability to make the trip across country at his age. I do believe he chose to leave at this time to help free me.
About 15 years ago I was boarding him in a big, fancy stable and one or another of the boarders got us all on board with contacting an animal communicator to learn about our relationships with our horses. I was curious, so went along with it, though with not much expectations. We all had private phone consultations...I think it was about 15 minutes or so.
She was amazed by Algiers' and my relationship, the bond between us. She told me he really, really loved me. I asked if there was anything I could do differently for him, and she said he was perfectly happy as things were. No complaints.
I figured she just was saying that because who would want to pay to hear criticism. But when I talked with other boarders, none of them had the kind of session I had. They were amazed; their horses all had complaints about them!
